About the Diocese

Diosesan Officials

The diocese of Guyana is home to more than ……….. people.

It ranges from small hinterland/ interior communities to major costal towns districts and villages.

These communities are served by some ……… parishes, more than ………..churches and ………. Missions.

Across the Diocese many thousands of Anglicans seek to express their faith in their daily lives – in their families and at home, at their places of work and in their local communities.

Some ………. Clergy and around ………. Lay ministers offer spiritual and pastoral care, and help people to explore the significance and the challenge of the Christian faith in today’s world.

The Anglican churches work to develop close links with churches of other Christian denominations through the Guyana Council of Churches, and to build understanding with members of other faiths.

The Diocese also has close links with churches across the world, particularly in the United Kingdom, Canada, U.S.A., and of course the West Indies where it comprise a Province of eight Dioceses.

The Diocese is overseen by the Bishop of Guyana, whose ‘cathedra’ (or chair) is in St. George’s Cathedral. He is supported by the Archdeacon of Berbice who is also Vicar General, a Rural Dean, the Rector of the Cathedral and a non – residentary Canon of the Cathedral.

The Cathedral has its web – site at www.stgeorges.org.gy. Follow this link or reach it from the Contact The Diocese page.
