The Diocese of Guyana is one of the eight Dioceses comprising the Church in the province of the West Indies (C.P.W.I.). It is situated on the north coast of South America and includes the Anglican churches in Suriname (Dutch Guiana), and Cayenne (French Guiana). It is bordered on the north by the Atlantic Ocean, on the north - west by Venezuela, and the south - west, south and east by Brazil.
The diocese has 3 deaneries – Essequibo, Demerara, and Berbice, over ……. Churches, and ……… clergy assisted by catechists, and lay ministers. The diocese following the pattern of the geography of the country comprise coastland and interior parishes scattered over an area of over 83,000 sq. miles with a population of approximately 712,000 persons.
The Cheddi Jagan International Airport is the only international facility through which travellers can access the diocese / country, B.W.I.A., Universal Airlines, North American, Liat are the main carriers at the time of writing.
Travel in the diocese is by air, roads and waterways. Domestic flights are facilitated from a small but expanding aerodrome at Ogle on the East Coast of Demerara, eight miles from the Capital, Georgetown.
